So much better than vinegar!

No-Vinegar Fizzy Sensory Play (That Actually Lasts)

If you love the idea of fizzy science play but hate the smell of vinegar, this is for you.
This version gives you all the fizz… without the mess, the smell, or the constant reset.
I made these the night before, and the next morning my grandkids played with them for over an hour—and kept coming back all day. That’s always the test.

What You’ll Need
- Baking soda
- Citric acid
- Cornstarch
- Dish soap
- Optional: food coloring or washable paint
- Silicone molds (or just shape by hand)

The Recipe
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cupo citric acid
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 2–3 teaspoons dish soap
Mix everything together until it feels slightly damp—just enough to hold its shape when you press it.
How to Make Them
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl
- Add a little color if you want (totally optional)
- Press into silicone molds (or form into little shapes)
- Let dry overnight
That’s it.
How to Use
Drop them into water and watch the fizz.
You can:
- Use them in a water table
- Add scoops and tools
- Let kids mix colors and experiment
It turns into open-ended play instead of a one-and-done reaction.
Why This Works Better
- No strong vinegar smell
- Easier to prep ahead
- Lasts longer than a quick “volcano”
- Kids can come back to it again and again
A Simple Tip
You don’t need anything fancy for this to work.
Use what you already have:
- kitchen tools
- old molds
- cups and spoons
That’s usually what they end up loving the most anyway.
If you try it, you’ll see why this one sticks.
